Emil Kozak was inspired to take on graphic design as a result of his life long passion for skateboarding. Through a commitment to cross-pollination and self-discipline, Kozak has developed a successful career and global following as a unique artist that executes brilliant ideas. Kozak's works has been exhibited around the world and his clients include VANS, Eastpak, Graniph, Element, Streetmachine, Planet Earth and Norse. Behance caught up with Emil Kozak to discuss his approach to creative work, cross-pollination, and staying organized amidst creative chaos.

Kozak strives for purposeful work over pure, aimless freethinking. He attempts a productive creative process through, "persistence, hard work and thinking before doing." He goes on to explain, "sure, spontaneous doodling and painting serve a purpose, but a lot of hours of working can be saved by having a clear concept and goal of what you want to say."

To keep an organized agenda, Kozak has found no better solution than his own personalized system. "Every month I draw a big A3 calendar that serves as my agenda. Throughout the month it gets more and more doodles, colors and coffee-stains. I have (tried) countless agendas...and i've tried various organizing software, but nothing seems to work as well as when I make them myself."

Kozak's artistic expression has been led by his own instincts. "...I have often told myself that if I find (a concept) funny or interesting, my audience will appreciate it as well. Honesty is always interesting and true feelings can't be faked.

"Kozak seeks opportunities for cross-pollination to develop his own work. "Collaborations and healthy creative dialogs with clients have pushed me into new areas I would have never explored on my own. New experiences, astonishment, and fresh feelings keep me going.

"Kozak is motivated by a simple goal that resonates throughout his work. "I hope that my work can remind us that imagination can defy gravity and bend time. It is our own responsibility to enjoy every second of the day. Nobody else can do that for us. Have fun, eat candy, do what you love, love what you do... We might get thrown off this spinning ball of iron and mantle tomorrow."
